EYEBALLS OUT

Viareggio, Italy - Aldo Bianchini, a 46-year-old British-born Italian resident was hospitalized after he reportedly gouged his own eyes out during a church service.

According to emergency responders, Bianchini was attending a Sunday Mass at the church of St. Andrea's in Viareggio when he reportedly stood up and ripped his own eyes out with his bare hands in front of a congregation of about 300 people.
He then collapsed in pool of blood as horrified parishioners looked on.

Investigators say when EMS arrived on the scene, Bianchini was calm and coherent. He was rushed to Versilia Hospital in Viareggio for serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Once Bianchini was taken to hospital, the priest continued with the service as planned.

Bianchini received emergency surgery, but doctors were unable to restore his sight. When medical staff asked him why he gouged out his own eyes, he stated that he heard voices that told him to do so. Authorities believe Bianchini may have a history of psychological issues.
