WALMART CHECKOUT


Salisbury, Maryland (SafeCITY) - James Russell Crockett, a 24-year-old Salisbury man was jailed after he allegedly assaulted a 70-year-old woman in a check-out line for "bumping into his wife's shopping cart."

According to Salisbury police, The victim and the Crocketts were waiting in a Walmart check-out line when the victim decided to change lines, and accidentally hit Mrs. Crockett's cart with her own.

Investigators say the couple became angry and belligerent, and shouted racial slurs at the elderly woman. Mr. Crockett then forced the victim onto her cart, then slammed her into the conveyor belt four times. After the women fell to the floor, he flipped her cart on top of her. The couple then proceeded to check out their groceries as she screamed and begged for someone to help her.

The victim was taken to the emergency room at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. She did have prior health issues. Her condition is unknown.

Mr. Crockett was booked into jail and charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, disturbing the peace, dangerous weapon with intent to injure and disorderly conduct. He also had an outstanding warrant. He was released after posting $100,000 bond.
